Tech of the Day! Perplexity Just Launched Its Own Autonomous Assistant (Android Only, It Seems)!
A new autonomous digital assistant has landed on Android. Unlike traditional assistants that just hand you answers, this one can actually act on your behalf.
Practical Use Cases
Want to book a taxi, play a song, and check a route? Perplexity's assistant can do all of that instantly.
The Main Advantage
While other assistants like Alexa and Siri already exist, Perplexity's CEO points out that "the advantage of this feature lies in its ability to retain context." Users can start a conversation on a topic and then set up related actions, like getting alerts ahead of a sports event.
Multilingual and Multimodal Capabilities
The assistant supports 15 languages and boasts impressive multimodal capabilities. Your device's camera becomes an analysis tool: need to make sense of something around you? The assistant analyzes it.
Current State and Upcoming Improvements
The tool isn't perfect yet. Some actions can be a bit shaky, but the CEO promises improvements in the coming months.
Installation and Use
Download the app from the Google Play Store and enable the "Default digital assistant" option in your settings.
You can invoke the assistant several ways:
- press the power button,
- access it from the home screen,
- or swipe the screen.
Whether you prefer voice or text commands, Perplexity Assistant adapts to your style.
